Darren has practiced as a litigator in the Hudson Valley region since 2006. He joined SRDD Law in 2014 continuing his litigation practice in a variety of civil and commercial matters, such as “business divorces”, contract disputes, property disputes, collections and judgment enforcement proceedings. Some of Darren’s work at SRDD Law includes:
- Business Divorce/Temporary Restraint – Darren obtained a court order appointing a temporary receiver over the operations and assets of the disputed restaurant, which stripped defendants of their control/ownership of the restaurant. The severity of this initial relief lead to a quick and favorable settlement whereby the defendants consented to personal judgments against them and conveyed a 50% interest in the restaurant to the plaintiff as additional security for repayment.
- Dissolution/Ejectment – Darren obtained judicial dissolution of an LLC (which owned gas station property) in a dispute between its 50/50 members. During the dissolution process, Darren ejected/evicted the opposing LLC member who operated a car dealership at the site for the previous 25 years. In the end, Darren’s client obtained sole ownership of the gas station/property.
- Boundary Dispute – Darren won a declaratory judgment in favor of his clients after three days of trial and expert testimony. The judgment established the property boundary line between two subdivisions and ancient parcels (dating back to the 1800s) and barred the other side from making any other claim to the property in the future.
Darren enjoys the challenge of analyzing complex and novel legal issues, and then presenting them to the court, whether in written submissions or at oral argument.
Darren grew up in a small family business environment – a place where each person carried a tremendous amount of responsibility and served the customer directly and attentively. When he’s not in court or at the office, Darren helps to continue the tradition of family business by supporting his wife, Alissa R. Fairlie, D.V.M, and her operation of Creature Comforts Animal Hospital in Poughkeepsie, which she opened in 2012: “The most liked lawyer in the room is the one who has a veterinarian for a wife.”
