Hotel Construction Helps Build the Local Economy

  • June 13, 2018

If you have traveled down route 9 in Poughkeepsie recently, you have likely noticed the active job site for a Hyatt Place Hotel off Scheafe Road. The project, led by our client, Empire Hotel Development Inc., has attracted a lot of press as it is expected to bring a considerable amount of jobs and revenue to the area (more details in our previous blog about the project here.)

We recently stopped by the job site, and, as promised, the project is already contributing to the local economy in the construction phase. According to Calamar Construction, the construction manager for the project, they have anywhere from 30-40 workers on site most days.

Stenger, Diamond & Glass LLP (Stenger, Glass, Hagstrom, Lindars & Iuele LLP) has expertise in land use and commercial development making the firm a good fit to get the project off the ground and into construction so quickly. “I like the law firm’s participation in this effort for two reasons.  First, it gave this law firm an opportunity to work on the acquisition, development, and financing of a large and complex project.  Second, the project is something that will give back to the community, in taxes and jobs, for decades to come in the future,” says Kenneth Stenger, attorney at Stenger, Glass, Hagstrom, Lindars & Iuele LLP.

In only a few short weeks since our last visit, the construction has progressed considerably. The last time we drove by only the wall was built and there wasn’t even a beam in place. “The Hyatt place will be a 93-room hotel and is scheduled to open this fall,” says Erfan Khan, President of Empire Hotel Development Inc.
