You should hire an attorney as soon as there is an accusation against you. The “pre-filing” stage is a crucial time in your case and a point in which your attorney may have the most impact. There is no reason to wait around to see what charges may be made against you. This is also a good time to have your attorney try and file for a lesser charge, or negotiate for you.
